Gillian McCarthy
Associate Director of Professional Development

Gillian brings a deep commitment to supporting teachers and teaching artists in the development of skills, knowledge and confidence to bring creativity and the arts to young people. Having joined Inner-City Arts as Professional Development Manager in 2011, she oversees implementation of diverse programming for classroom teachers, teaching artists, graduate students and school administrators. To foster the synergy that results in collaborations between teachers and teaching artists, Gillian launched the Studio-Classroom Partnership program, and Intersections, a community discussion series. Previously, Gillian served as U.S. Manager for WebPlay, an internet-integrated theatre education program linking students in Los Angeles and New York with their peers in England. As Associate Director of Artist in Residence and Teacher Partnerships for the Music Center Education Division, she facilitated extended, in-depth artist residencies at schools across Southern California. Gillian has led workshops on creativity, state arts standards, and 21st Century Learning skills, and presented at Oracle Education Foundation’s International Think Conference. She regularly serves as peer review panelist for organizations and funders including the California Arts Council, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, Center Theatre Group’s Teacher Fellowship program, and the Center for Childhood Creativity.
