Kristy Messer
Lead Teaching Artist, Performing Arts

For over 17 years, Kristy has worked in the field of arts and education as a teaching artist, classroom teacher, camp director, administrator and professor. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Theatre from New York University, a M.A. in Theatre from California State University Los Angeles, and a B.F.A. in Theatre from Texas State University. Kristy has served as a drama and film instructor at Inner-City Arts since 2004, where she has created and taught original curricula for a variety of in-school, after-school and summer camp programs. In the past two years at ICA, she created a documentary film program for high school students and also partnered with classroom teachers to help them bring drama into their classrooms. She has taught “Dramatic Activities in the Elementary Classroom” at NYU and California State University. She has served as the Assistant Director for professional theatrical productions at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts and [Inside] the Ford. Kristy’s prior teaching experience also includes The Accelerated School, Mirman School for Gifted Children, Zachary Scott Theatre Performing Arts School, and Seattle Children’s Theatre. Most recently, Kristy was a contributor for Theatre for Change: Education, Social Action, and Therapy.
