How You Can Help - Volunteer

Inner-City Arts volunteers provide an invaluable service to us and we know that we could not successfully accomplish our mission without their help. Whether you are working with one of our artists or administrators, you are making a difference in the lives of these children.

Here are several ways to volunteer at Inner-City Arts:

Big Sunday
Our biggest volunteer event is in partnership with the organization, Big Sunday. Organized annually in the spring (April or May), Inner-City Arts is just one of the 500 projects that make up Big Sunday, which is considered one of the largest regional community service events in America and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.

If you would like to be part of our next Big Sunday volunteer event, sign up on their web site to make sure you don’t miss the chance to register when the online application opens. Please note that the minute registration is open, our project fills up fast! We’re flattered that our project is so popular so be sure to sign up at http://www.bigsunday.org/ to be notified.

Top to Bottom
Our second largest volunteer event is in September. We call it our Top to Bottom Day because before the year is up, we need all hands on deck to help us brighten up our campus from top to bottom!  It often involves everything from adding a fresh coat of paint to our studio walls or re-filling paint cans for our students to paint with.  While it may be something as simple as cutting paper or wiping down windows of handprints, it’s volunteer assistance that we can’t do without.

All ages are welcome although volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The number of volunteers needed for this event is limited, so please email
volunteer@inner-cityarts.org to sign up for our next Top to Bottom day and we’ll be sure to alert you with further details. 2010 Top 2 Bottom Flier

Events
Volunteer responsibilities during events can range from working the registration desk, being a guest greeter or usher, to a live auction spotter or overseeing a food station. Our fundraising events are throughout the year so if you are interested in volunteering at one or some of our fundraising events, please email volunteer@inner-cityarts.org and let us know. We’d love your help!

Programs
Program volunteers can assist in the studio classes, in program events, and administratively. All program volunteers will be required to interview and apply to Inner-City Arts’ Volunteer Training Program, which is offered twice a year.  This training offers you insight into Inner-City Arts’ philosophy, mission and structure, and hands-on training in the art of working with children.  For studio volunteers, also required is a background check and commitment to volunteer at least once a week for one studio session (7 weeks).

How You Can Help - Volunteer

The Best Place. Period.

I volunteer at Inner-City Arts because it's the best place. Period. It's a little creativity oasis that fuels the arts for children in an underprivileged community. Inner- City Arts reminds me that the arts must be essential in our education curriculum. It's an inspiration. It's fun. I love the people. And when I complete my volunteer assignment, I'm that much more of a creative artist myself.
