Inner-City Arts is thrilled to announce the appointment of longstanding board member and supporter Jonathan Schreter to Board Chair.

“Inner-City Arts has spent the past 29 years deepening and strengthening their impact in Downtown Los Angeles,” Jonathan said. “We are now finally ready to expand what Inner-City Arts does and represents. It’s time to take this unique curriculum and approach to the creative process to the rest of greater Los Angeles and beyond. I am honored to be leading the charge in sharing this message far and wide. It’s an exciting time.”

A second-generation board member, Jonathan has been involved with Inner-City Arts ever since he can remember. His parents, Barbara and Michael Schreter, were founding board members in 1989. His passion for advocating for young people, creativity, and the local community began at Inner-City Arts nearly three decades ago and continues through his work as Executive Vice President of Bolton & Company, where he provides risk management primarily for charter and independent schools (K-12) as well as higher education clients. Jonathan brings his extensive background and skills in marketing, risk management, technology, education, and entertainment to Inner-City Arts.

When his mother Barbara passed away in 2004,  his father asked Jonathan to continue his mother’s legacy and create his own by joining the Board of Directors at Inner-City Arts. Jonathan says resoundingly that it was a “no-brainer.”

Since then, Jonathan has been involved in all aspects of board life, serving on multiple committees. He has also been passionate about supporting Inner-City Arts students after high school through the Barbara J. Schreter Scholarship Fund, which helps awarded students offset their expenses and jumpstart their collegiate experiences.

Jonathan has many memories which spur him forward and inspire his work here, but one in particular stands out.

“We had asked a class to paint a skyline. There were 26 students and there were 26 paintings on the wall,” Jonathan said. “Every single one of them completely different from the next. None of them were wrong. What an opportunity for a kid! To just express yourself and show what you are feeling. That’s what this place is about — the ability to express yourself without judgment, without issue, freely and creatively.”
