Lantern-Making: Talismans of Protection, Creation, and Intention
Lantern-Making Talismans of Protection, Creation, and Intention

  • Saturday, April 11, 2026
    12:00 pm - 01:30 pm

Price: $FREE BUY TICKETS
For ages 12+

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the basics of paper lantern–making while exploring the cultural history and symbolism behind lanterns as objects crafted with intentions for protection, community, and care. With a guided reflection and creative design process, you will create a personalized lantern that is anchored to a specific value, hope, or intention you wish to carry forward. No prior art experience is required, and all ages are welcome.

Instructor Maya Faith Chan is a multimedia artist working in digital photography, collage, and experimental film. Her creative practice explores memory, emotion, and the ways art can be used as a tool for reflection, healing, and self-expression. Her work is characterized by atmospheric, vivid imagery of distorted environments, while examining themes of ancestral history, grief, derealization, and disrupted collective memory. As both an artist and educator, she has led arts workshops and creative education programming on themes of healing, social justice, and care with communities across California.
